About St. Paul University Surigao
St. Paul University Surigao (SPUS) is a Catholic educational institution with origins dating back to 1906. It began as a Cartilla or Doctrina School established by Spanish Benedictine Missionaries, which evolved into Escuela Catolica de San Nicolas. After the departure of the Benedictines, the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (Dutch Fathers) took over, making it a parochial school renamed San Nicolas School. The university emphasizes faith-based education, integrating Catholic Christian values and Paulinian spirituality across all programs to develop ethically grounded, compassionate, and Christ-centered leaders. It employs an Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) framework delivered by expert faculty to ensure academic rigor and industry-relevant skills, preparing students for success in the global economy. The campus offers a vibrant student life with diverse organizations, events, and service opportunities for holistic growth. SPUS boasts a global alumni network that provides mentorship, professional connections, and lifelong support. The institution has multiple campuses and programs, and it actively engages in partnerships, such as a Memorandum of Understanding with SMARTER Brunei, to enhance global academic excellence. Recent activities include career awareness events, social media responsibility workshops, academic competitions, and work immersion programs, reflecting its commitment to holistic education and community engagement.
