About SOPHIA SCHOOL
Sophia School Meycauayan is an educational institution founded in January 1995 by husband-and-wife team Lorenzo Abacan (a psychologist-educator) and Marie Ann Regoso-Abacan (a nutritionist-educator). The school's name derives from the Greek word 'sofia,' meaning wisdom. It formally opened in June 1995 with 30 pupils in pre-school and grade school departments, initially operating from a three-classroom facility on Abacan Street, Barangay Calvario, Meycauayan City, Bulacan. The school has since expanded significantly, with its pre-school, grade school, and junior high school departments and administrative offices now housed in a new four-story building on Dazo Street in the same barangay, while the senior high school department occupies the original Abacan Street compound. The institution has received various accreditations from the Department of Education (DepEd): the pre-school program was accredited in April 1997, the grade school program in June 2000, the high school department (which began in June 2001) in March 2005, and the senior high school department received its permit to operate in 2016. Sophia School describes itself as a progressive institution focused on holistic and leadership excellence, aiming to develop students as 'whole leaders of change' for society. Its educational philosophy emphasizes shaping learners' head (intellectual competence), heart (psycho-social soundness), health (physical well-being), hands (action-driven qualities), and halo (spiritual grounding) through a developmentally-appropriate curriculum in partnership with families. The school's mission is to make students whole and wise while igniting their passion to learn, live, love, and lead.
