About Maria Montessori Children's School Foundation, Inc.
Maria Montessori Children's School - Philippines (MMCS) is a Montessori educational institution founded by parents and teachers seeking to establish a school faithful to Montessori education principles. The school traces its origins to a borrowed classroom in Forbes Park half a century ago, moving to Vito Cruz St. in Manila in 1971, Williams St. in Pasay in 1975, and finally to its current Merville campus in 2003. Originally organized as a cooperative, it became Maria Montessori Children's School Foundation, Inc. (MMCSFI) in 1989, though it now operates under the name MMCS. The school follows Dr. Maria Montessori's educational philosophy, emphasizing nurturing children's innate curiosity, imagination, and readiness to learn through a supportive environment with trained guides. Its mission is to develop the whole child into an independent, confident individual who contributes positively to society. The vision is to be a model Montessori school in the Philippines and the region, offering the full Montessori continuum from infancy to adolescence. In 2013, MMCS launched its Adolescent Program (High School), graduating its first batch in 2019, with most students gaining admission to top Manila colleges. The school celebrates its 53rd anniversary in 2024 with renewed efforts to enhance communication, modernize administrative processes, and adapt educational approaches to contemporary contexts. It collaborates with Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) for teacher training and program standards and is fully licensed and accredited by the Department of Education. Core values include collaboration, excellence, respect, responsibility, integrity, and peace, encapsulated in the motto 'Montessori, Together.'
