About Central Philippine University
The Central Philippine University (CPU) Research Center for Philippine Native Chicken is a specialized research and development facility focused on modernizing and commercializing the production of Philippine native chickens. Unlike conventional poultry operations that concentrate on imported breeds requiring intensive management, this center champions the local, hardy native chickens that are integral to Filipino culinary heritage. Its mission is to apply scientific methods to traditional chicken-raising practices, empowering local farmers to enhance profitability while preserving the natural quality and flavor of native chickens. Key initiatives include designing cost-effective housing solutions, developing specialized affordable feeds and natural phytomedicines to reduce reliance on synthetic antibiotics, and implementing the 'Kumikitang Kabuhayan, CPU ang Kaakibat' project to ensure fair pricing for farmers by bridging market-farm price gaps. The center also produces educational guides on production, breeding, hatchery management, health, and nutrition, and aligns its work with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals such as No Poverty, Quality Education, and Partnerships. By supporting small farmers, promoting chemical-free food, and safeguarding local chicken breeds, the center aims to create a sustainable, high-tech future for native chicken production, benefiting students, farmers, and consumers alike.
